I’ve always had a soft spot for paper-crafted love. It’s the smell of the pages in a brand-new book, or the feeling in your heart when you unearth a card given to you years ago. I still appreciate the value in sending paper invitations and seeing that smile on the face of a loved one when they open a silly birthday card with an inside joke written inside.
Along with my love for paper greetings, I’m a firm believer in staging with paper in the home. Huge paper maps of the coast beside a water-view window center the soul, and nothing anchors a set of shelves like a stack of well-loved novels. If you visit my home, you will see art made by my children hanging in every room. From finger paintings made by toddlers to figure drawings made more recently, these paper masterpieces were created with love and hold special meaning to me.
I also frequently incorporate hard-cover books for an element of warmth in my design, especially coffee table books with eye-catching covers of artists and designers that inspire me. I love the way books transition seamlessly through multiple seasons and aesthetics. If there's room, I'll vary the colors, sizes and orientation of books in a given space, like the way I staged the sitting-room and shelving unit in the top photo.
Whatever your love story, read on! Thanks for reading, and we hope you have a very special Valentine's Day.
